Subject: GIA education
Comment: GIA offers a comprehensive set of classes in gemology. I am very happy with the courses leading to a GG - graduate gemologist. I studied the basic courses via "distance education" and especially enjoyed the gem identification course. Identifications were done with my instruments, and I posted answers on their website. Corrections and comments were provided by a real person on a timely basis. Weekly a box of wonderful stones would arrive for me to identify. It was like having a birthday present each time. Also required for the GG are three on-site classes. They had good instructors and equipment. This is a relatively expensive course, but in my opinion, very well done and mostly worth the cost and effort. I didn't like the heavy emphasis on running or working in a retail jewelry store, but I would guess that is who the course was designed for. The course has prepared me well for working in the designer jewelry business. Judy Hoch GG
