    There is an ongoing effort to determine method and measurement on
    hardening precious metals.  Impingement, precipitation hardening and
    other forms are under consideration.  The first report will be at
    the Santa Fe Symposium in May.  I believe Stewart Grice from Hoover
    and Strong and Andrew Nyce are part of that research. 

    In the mean time, why don't you try the steel shot? I'd be cautious
    about tumbling nickel white gold, it seems to react poorly with
    stress.
