Society of North American Goldsmiths Announces Suzanne Ramljak Editor
of Metalsmith magazine

Madison, WI * The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) is proud
to announce the appointment of Suzanne Ramljak as the new editor of
Metalsmith magazine, effective January 1, 2001. “We are extremely
pleased that Ms. Ramljak has joined Metalsmith. She is superbly
qualified for this position and we are excited at the prospect of
combining her impressive scholarship and professional experience with
the leading magazine in the metal arts,” said Dana Singer, SNAG
Executive Director. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Ms. Ramljak is
presently curator of exhibitions at the American Federation of Arts,
and is the former editor of Sculpture magazine and Glass magazine, and
associate editor of American Ceramics magazine. She served as the
primary editor working with author Susan Grant Lewin on the book, One
of a Kind: American Art Jewelry Today (1994), to which she also
contributed an essay, “The Power of the Intimate: On Contemporary
Jewelry and Sculpture.”

Ms. Ramljak has a significant background in writing on craft and art
for publications ranging from The New York Times to ArtNews, and was a
recipient of the Vanessa Lynn Prize for Critical Writing from American
Craft magazine for her essay “Keeping Vigil: Jewelry, Touch, and
Physical Engagement” (1997). In addition, she brings extensive lecture
and curatorial experience to the position, including serving as
co-curator with David Revere McFadden, American Craft Museum, of the
forthcoming exhibition Artful Deception: Illusion, Artifice, Surprise.
Ms. Ramljak holds a masters degree in Art History from the University
of Michigan, Ann Arbor and is completing her Ph.D. at the Graduate
School of the City University of New York.
