don't expect any touchy-feelly, long heavy-on-the-angst-of-humanity stories with my designs; mostly they result from "hummm, how would this look with that - or those - and what do they need to hold them together?" i have literally tons of material to cut and my design ideas tumble around so fast that halfway through working some of them the basic idea will change; i will never be one of those designers who can get from inception to completion without digressions - my commissions all hear the same caveat: "this isn't burger king, i do it my way or i don't do it" - there's been one complaint - they all agree with the results and like the idea of being able to wear a piece unique to them.

one of several in a series of 'eves', forged, twisted and generally beat into shape. i carve the eves' faces from scraps of hundreds of year old ivory. each 3 to 3 1/2 inch pendant is different, this one is on a hanger with the snake doing the schlepping, others on other neckpieces. the apple tree relocates from side to side in other pieces. eyes are faceted emeralds, apples are garnet cabs. on the backs ive engraves "the 1st bum rap".

another face carved from very old ivory scrap with emerald eyes. forged with bamboo leaves, pendant was texture rolled with bamboo cutouts. set with faceted amethysts and pearls; hanger wire was segmented to resemble bamboo stalks and other end has more amethysts and pearls and bamboo leaves.

this piece was just the result of having a 14x9 mm citrine and i thought would look nice with the 1 1/4+ inch round labradorite cab i had cut and polished

well, the rollers on my mill were obviously wonky and flared the sheet so i designed the resulting curve into a 'breastplate' piece set with black opals and cut out circles; i handmade the chain and hook.

long stick pearls set into tubes in one of my favorite designs, usually about 4 inches or so wide - each piece has different number of tiers and different material between tiers. a real 'get stopped on the street by strangers' (and upon walking into the 2005 orchid dinner) design. sometimes i use black coral instead of the stick pearls.

'the warrior' series is done with the contents of the bags of black rocks i bought at the smithsonian shops while everyone else was buying prints and lithos. his eyes are faceted emerald navettes. the hammered pendant is set with faceted tourmalines. helmets vary and some have ruby navette mouths.
