I've seen some MOP that was painted (allegedly in Russia).
Great detail, modern painting of 19th century-style portraits.
It looked as though it were done with acrylic or something
equivalent and a fine brush...
It was painted on the convex (curved out) side.
I don't think it was sealed, I could see brush strokes pretty
clearly in relief.
