What is platineve?

Recently I have been seeing ads on TV for rings, and other pieces of
jewelry set in platineve, but no as to what platineve
is? Surfed the internet, but could not find any other
than it is referred to as Platineve TM.

What kind of metal is it?

*Platineve’ (Plat eh NEVE) is an exclusive process to Jewelry
Television that contains platinum and other precious metals clad over
sterling silver.

The Platineve finish ensures jewelry will have a durable shine and
brilliant luster. Platineve is 100 percent nickel free and contains
not only Platinum but also rhodium, which is a member of the platinum
family.

The addition of rhodium adds an anti-tarnish feature to sterling
silver jewelry. Platineve gives jewelry an even whiter, more
brilliant luster.*

Another reason I don’t watch television.

Platineve appears to be an alloy that contains some percentage of
platinum and rhodium. It is being touted by JTV with their Bella
Luce line.

From JTV:

“Platineve is 100 percent nickel free and contains not only Platinum
but also rhodium. The Platineve finish ensures jewelry will have a
durable shine and brilliant luster and gives jewelry an even whiter,
more brilliant look.”

Like some other terms used by JTV, this appears to be a marketing
strategy for their company.

I found this at
https://www.ganoksin.com/gnkurl/ep800q

“Platineveis a proprietary plating that is mostly platinum and
other, very precious metals. We cannot divulge the contents of the
plating as that could jeopardize the patents that JTV holds. However,
it is more lustrous and has a higher resistance to scratching than
other white metal platings currently on the market.”

So, it’s just a plating, and no clue as to what the base metal is.
The stuff about the patents is BS, of course - the very purpose of a
patent is to publish how something is made. In any case a search of
the US Patent database doesn’t have an entry under that name. The
real reason it’s secret is because you wouldn’t want it if you knew
what it is.

I did run across this.

"Platineve is an alloy of platinum and rhodium plating over sterling
silver.

If you were going on a cruise and didn’t want to worry about your
jewelry, this might be a good substitute wedding set."

What does it meanee?

Thanks all for explaining what platineve is—nothing but plating
over some other metal.

JTV does manufacture terminology meant to enchance whatever they are
selling. Lately it has been "l8K gold over sterling. " Then they
state that it is "layers and layers of 18 K. gold. " Do they mean 2
layers, or are they implying that the piece contains multiple
layers? " Is it plated, or bonded to the sterling? They don’t get
into specifics. Interesting marketing stratagy, but a bit
misleading. Alma

Maybe every time they dip it into the solution it gets another
layer? I’m sure some of the more scientifically minded on here can
tell us if there’s a difference between “bonded"and"plated” but from
my point of view they’re the same.

if there's a difference between "bonded" and "plated" but from my
point of view they're the same.

Well, they’re different concepts, but you certainly hope that your
plating is well bonded! Otherwise it will flake off.
