I am a turquoise miner with five claims in Nevada. On many occasions
while following a vein of blue or green turquoise I have seen it go
white. Often this is material that is such a pale blue that it
appears white. I am not talking about chalk or variscite or
chalcosiderite, but hard solid turquoise. During the 70's when there
was much more turquoise mining going on, most of the miners were
looking for the deepest blue color they could find because that was
what the market called for. The white and very often the green
turquoise was just chucked in the dumps even if it was hard,
polishable material. While most of what is marketed today as "white"
turquoise is howlite, magnesite(white horse) and alunite, true white
    turquoise does exist.
