========[ Invite a Friend - http://www.ganoksin.com/invite.htm ]======== Amery, Yes, Rainbow Moonstone is indeed Spectrolite which is a Labradorite, which is a Feldspar. Oregon Sunstone is also Gem Labradorite often without any Labradorescence (the play of light typical of Labradorite). I complimented someone on their Spectrolite once, and was verbally jumped. "No, it's Rainbow Moonstone." The person thought I was an idiot and walked off. I just had to wonder why someone would have to question my education. Oh, that's right, I forgot that the Industry is greater than the Individual. And yes, you were right, the misnomer "smoky" or "smokey topaz" is Smoky Quartz. Someone just asked me if I had and "White Emerald". Looking for it on the web I see only beads. It looks like white quartz that didn't take green dye very well, or near white opaque beryl with a hint of emerald green. I have only seen one reference. Goshenite was my first thought. No, not it. Someone recently asked me about Green Amethyst. Green Amethyst is Prasiolite, but I said "what is green amethyst?". Which this all leads to "schooling potential customers is often seen as confrontational whether you like it or not". "Do you have any Black Onyx?" a customer asked. "What is Black Onyx? Do you mean Black Agate, Black dyed Chalcedony, Black Jasper?" I replied. (I only use natural, untreated material to the best of my knowledge and so called Black Onyx is usually dyed and I don't consider dyed as natural even if the dye is natural). The customer walked away. And on a related but different note, someone asked if I had some really valuable and rare Pakistani gem just so they could feel good about themselves when I said I I didn't know what the stone was so they could talk about it. Children and young adults see my faceted stones at market (I loose money at Farmers Markets regularly, haha) and ask "are those real?" or "are those diamonds?". With the "are those real?" question I ask "real what?" Diamonds. Which leads me to say "if they were diamonds, I wouldn't be here!". It will happen this weekend, rest assured.
