By now it is obvious, at least to me, that consensus on the subject
    cannot be reached.

In my last post on this subject, I would like to bring to attention
this fact. For hundreds of years designers communicated with
customers via sketches made on brown paper where gold was represented
as some yellow substance, diamonds were small bits of white paint,
and
etc. It did not impede their business in any way and many of them
went
on to become powerhouses of the trade.

The lesson that we can take away from it is that clients do
understand limits of pictorial representation and even appreciate the
fact that they are treated not like children, but like sophisticated
individual capable of mentally bridging gaps between an item and the
    image of an item.

    Few words about film processing.

An attempt was made to draw a parallel between lab techniques used
on film and photoshopping. In my humble opinion, this is not a valid
comparison. Film manipulation, besides adding artistic touches, was
developed out of necessity to salvage pictures that cannot be
retaken.
This situation does not exist in digital photography. If one is
unsatisfied with the shot, simply take another and another until
    proper exposure is discovered.
