I would think it's kind of an individual thing, like how you run your
business or how you run your life in general. If you cheat and lie,
you're not going to have repeat customers and you expose yourself to
lawsuits. If you value honesty and treat your customers with great
care, they will know it and you will benefit accordingly.

Just because a few MAY misrepresent their work surely doesn't mean
everyone does and as so many have eloquently pointed out, we're just
trying to show three dimensional work in a two dimensional world, so
we're at a deficit to begin with. Of what good would it be to any of
us to purposefully misrepresent our work? It's not like we need to
start some sort of initiative to prevent any kind of
photo-enhancement (and I use the word "enhancement" loosely here) in
order to keep us all honest. I think to a great extent, we already
    are.

If the public starts getting burned by a few less than honest
jewelers, that's too bad, but it's more business for the rest of us
    who value honesty.
