I never use gloves, but I was polishing a platinum ring on an inside
ring felt buff years ago. The ring had multi raised heads with
prongs. I pushed it onto the buff a little too far, and platinum
tends to grab onto a buff very easily unlike gold or silver. It
wedged, pulled my fingers around the buff with it, and in a flash,
the prongs ground the flesh off my middle finger before I could stop
the arbor with my other hand. It looked like someone had taken a
melon baller to my finger, a perfect scoop of flesh gone. That took
almost a year before it finally filled back in, and I have no
    fingerprint there.
