I think everyone understood your point the first time you made it,
but we are simply in disagreement about whether or not photoshop
should be used to represent a piece of jewellery.

Well that's precisely why photoshop should be used if a piece of
jewellery is to be sold online rather than in a bricks and mortar
jewellery shop. It is THE only opportunity we have to get that
customer to buy our pieces of jewellery. If we under-promise, we
simply won't get the chance to over-deliver because they won't
    order!

We are all correct really. Those of us who want to correct errors in
photography and represent the jewellery truly are correct and you,
who won't use photoshop because you feel it could be used to
misrepresent the jewellery to look better than it is, are also
    correct.

Use Photoshop to clean up specs of dust in the picture - YES

Use Photoshop to clean up flaws in a gem or flaws in polishing
    technique - NO NO

Use Photoshop to render an image with colours closer to reality -
    YES

Use Photoshop to make a 5 dollar emerald look like a 5K dollar
    emerald - NO NO

This is a debate that could go round and round in circles, but at
the end of the day, we all want the same - to represent our jewellery
to look as good as it does in reality.
