I would beg to disagree, as the whole point of the picture is to
accurately represent the work. If the original photograph does NOT
do that, then using that photograph is the misrepresentation; not
used the "corrected" photograph. If you have ever bought anything
from a printed catalog, or internet site, you have purchased based on
a picture that has been edited to correctly represent the item being
sold. This is not only standard business practice, but GOOD business
practice. Using an uncorrected photograph to sell something, just to
be using an uncorrected photograph, misses the entire point of
having the photograph accurately represent the item. IF you have the
good fortune to have an item that is easy to photograph, and get an
accurate representation in your original image, then using that does
make sense. In product photography that rarely happens.

This is not just a digital issue - years ago when I did museum
photography it was expected that we would engage in darkroom
manipulations (equivalent to photoshopping for the times) to ensure
that the print accurately represented the art work, as the negative
    rarely did on its own.

Beth in SC who misses the fully equipped museum photography studio ;)
