    I was talking with Brad Simon today about this, and he said they
    used to take two plastic watch crystals, bezel them together with the
    chipped stones inside as a pendant, sell it as a diamond pendant, and
    so recoup costs, give a nice 'diamond' pendant out and generally deal
    with the issue with everyone happy.
