This has been a great thread, but I'm curious. What do those of you
that never discount or haggle do with your inventory when it becomes
three or more years old? How do you deal with having resources tied
up in things that don't sell?

A couple of weeks ago we were getting ready to send some scrap off.
We had a five year old 18k white gold and diamond bracelet that got
much attention, but no buyer. It was headed back to the bench for
stone removal and then to the refiner when a customer that had
admired it before came in and asked me what my best price on it was.
I gave her a price that was 20% over the current scrap value of the
metal and wholesale cost on the stones (about $1500 below the marked
price of $4000), and told her that was the cash price. She left and
came back twenty minutes later with a great big grin and an envelope
full of hundred dollar bills. In my opinion, we both won. She got
braggin' rights and a great deal on a bracelet she really loves, and
I got more than I would have from scrapping it, much more quickly.

Is this something you wouldn't have done? If not, why? What would
you have done with that bracelet?

If you never discount or haggle, what do you do with your "inventory
dogs"? Or are you able to sell everything you make for full price
and just don't have this problem? If you are able to do that, PLEASE!
    Share the secret!

Dave
