Hi all!

My take on this entire hagglers thing is this.

I hear it everyday in my shop, "Can you do better than that?" "Is
there 'room on this?" "What's my price?"

My answer is always this, pleasant and no more than needed
explanation: "If my price was marked up high, I would gladly give you
a better deal. But my price is already marked down, so that's truly
    the best I can do."

I follow that up with something like: "So, are you doing all of your
    errands today?"

This puts them in the answering seat, and can engage the client in a
warmer no tension-held conversation. After all, you are both good
people with a heartbeat right? And then, ease back into, the item of
interest. "Were you looking at this for yourself, or was it for
someone else? --> Ah, you have to take care of yourself too right?
or --> It's really a nice idea for a gift, and worse case scenario,
if it doesn't fit once you've given it, the "item" can easily be
altered to fit by any jeweler, or bring it back to me and I'll take
    care of that for you."

You can develop your own style, but for me, I've found this to show
that I am human and not just there to take the money. I care about
the client, and am interested in what they are doing. Then close the
    sale :)

We don't get paid for opinions in this business, that's why we all
have them, and they are worth $0.00

However, we all can learn from each other's experiences, and that
adds huge value to the opinions in practice.

Phew! That was a long one for me.

    Back to work now!

Regards,
Gerry Aubin
