Correct me if I'm wrong, but my reading on Niobium indicates that it
doesn't work harden (it will but takes lots of work for it to happen)
very fast, so with that in mind what if you started with a suitably
sized round section wire and rolled it down to the required square or
    1/2 round?

I know that to anneal the stuff you need a vacuum chamber and some
sort of heating system (is resistive heating enough?), but I'd
hazard that is outside the tool collection of 99% of us all!
(Although I do own a 14" diameter by 20" tall vacuum chamber and
    associated pumps and do hickies.)

Cheers, Thomas.
