Yeah, I've heard that too. Not about you. I was out for dinner once
and across the hibachi table a customer remarked to her dining
companions that I was 'very' expensive. It bothered me for days. I
took offense at being mischaracterized that way. Slowly it dawned on
me what her remark really meant. She was puffing up her esteem in the
eyes of her friends. Something like "I can afford to shop at an
expensive place". BTW, she also never spent big, which is actually
    besides the point.

The point is perceived value and its not just dollars and cents. In
some cases the perceived value is "I got a nice discount". Sometimes
its "I got a high quality product". Sometimes its "He's such a nice
man". Completely true...people like to buy from people they like.
Door To Door Vacuum Sales 101. A lesson from my youth.

We're here to cater to our clientele. It can get tricky sometimes to
balance one's need for cash with one's idealized ethical standards.
Imho, in the long run its better to be honest. Which is a nice way of
saying if you're going to negotiate prices be real about it, it
serves you better. Sometimes market forces do the dictating.

But I'm only in my shoes, which at the moment are pretty comfy,
hasn't always been the case. Each of us will make a business
decision based on our own understanding of our own clientele and our
    own business needs.
