When I get a "bargain" of this sort, I wonder what the item is
really worth. If I am given a "discount", I begin to wonder what the
guy behind me will pay if he pushes harder. Where is the line, where
do you stop? When people try to knock my prices down, I feel as
though we are haggling over used flea market goods, trash. No one
haggles in a store. The price is set, and you respect it as such. If
you don't want to buy it for that price, that's OK, you go elsewhere,
and keep looking. I don't like to be on either end of a haggle at
all. I agree that it shouldn't be taken personally, at least, I try
not to. I just smile, and explain that the price is as marked, and
that I would love to offer it for less if I could. If they want to
haggle, I'm happy to let them them go elsewhere. For me, it's tough
enough to set prices the first time through, don't make me keep
revisiting it! You can always shake my hand afterward, though!
