Hello all,

    I can't say I've ever had a problem with "grimey" solder not
    flowing. Some of mine is pretty tarnished, but still seems to work.
    Commonly, when solder won't flow, it's because things aren't hot
    enough. 

    Just my experience - your mileage may vary,
