    I use an ultrasonic most of the time. I hate the smell of ammonia,
    so I use Ottosonic Solution (from Otto Frei) in it. It has heater,
    also. I just use the Ionic on stones that can't take the ultrasonic.
    It doesn't clean as fast as the ultrasonic, but it's much safer. I
    also agree that toothbrushes can sometimes scratch soft metal, so in
    those instances I will use a sponge to rub the piece.
