    Try another flux. Plumbers suppliers sell easyflo flux. I use the
    powder form, but the paste would also do. It's very good at reducing
    copper oxides while soldering. In fact if you get into trouble
    during prolonged soldering, applying new easyflo flux will clean the
    job up immediately.
