Hello Susan,

    1. Whoever made the disc for you did not fire it properly...it was
    not fully sintered/fused. If it had been fired correctly, it would
    never crumble or seem powdery...it would be solid metal. The artisan
    you ordered it from made a mistake in the firing. Go to someone else
    with more experience using metal clay. 

    2. If you want an element made using metal clay, and the element
    needs to be domed/curved/etc., ask the artisan to dome it exactly
    the way you want it BEFORE firing. Even though the element will be
    solid metal after firing, and can be shaped/domed gently, why wait
    until after firing to shape it, when it can be so easily shaped
    before firing.
