Hazel,

I am no way associated with the metal clay community; but I am
associated with the "jewelers' community"; have been for 32 years.
In the "jewelers' community" ethics and honesty are paramount. One
gets along in this industry in a very large part based on trust
(granted that trust maust often be guarded trust). I can't count how
many times gem or metal dealers have called me to get personal
references on prospective new clients and therefore base their trust
in that person based upon my recommendation of that person's
integrity. Trust must never be breeched if one is to survive in this
industry +/or if one ever expects to deal with suppliers besides than
the one breeched, because as large as the community seems, you'll
find that most everyone is in someway associates with or through
everyone else; and we all communicate with each other through this
extended network (at one time only by phone or in person, now by the
    internet and email).

You must not have thought that there would be members of each group
(metal clay forum and Orchid forum) attending the other's forum?
Obviously someone forwarded you the Orchid post from Nanz Aalund.
And obviously you chose to appease that community's outrage ahead of
the Orchid forum's collective being. I believe that was an error in
    judgment on your part.

I must say, Hazel, I do not know you from Adam; however your actions
regarding Nanz and your posting to the metal clay yahoo group while
claiming to Orchidians not have posted it (oops, I suppose you
slipped and meant to say you didn't post it directly to Orchid) is a
very underhanded use of language to explain away the upheaval caused
by your irresponsible actions. You, Hazel, have breeched the trust of
a very large group of jewelers. I for one will never trust anything
in your name again, and I suppose there is a rather large portion of
the "jewelers' community" that will feel the same way. This is the
group your magazine intendeds to lure as customers (in addition to
the "metal clays community"). I would think (and by looking through
the Orchid posts from the last few day, it seems proven) that you
will be losing a considerable portion of your subscribers and a
    significant portion of potential subscribers.

In conclusion, I think that it would be in the best interest of Art
Jewelry magazine if you submitted your resignation as editor of that
magazine, as publicly as your firing of Ms. Aalund and apologized
for your rash judgment to everyone openly on the Orchid and Metal
    clay forums.

Sincerely,
Paul D. Reilly
