I think one of the main reasons that we metal clay users make a
point of identifying our work as fine silver is that the term 'metal
clay' is misunderstood by those who know nothing about it. The very
word 'clay' conjures 'non-metallic', as in silver-coloured polymer
clay or silver-glazed pottery, rather than any material having a
certain texture and consistency. I am more than happy to explain to
anyone how I make my pieces, what metal clay is and how it 'becomes'
fine silver, even without being asked.

'Absolute truth' requires that pieces are stamped as fine silver,
which is what they are. By definition, metal clay contains both
binder and water and to stamp something as such would be misleading
    and inaccurate.

My customers don't really care what the original form of the silver
was, just that it is silver, and are often in need of education about
the difference between fine silver and sterling.
