ultimately it is more unfortunate that your management of Art
Jewelry Magazine has demonstrated that selling out of the only
employee that made the magazine worth paying for and, more importantly
gave credibility to the title chose a product over the most valuable
human resource, we -as readers, subscribers, jewelers, and
metalsmiths. could rely on to keep the "jewelry" in 'Art jewelry
Magazine".Firing Nanz Aalund, was,as others have termed it a
"knee-jerk reaction" at least, and calls into question your
credibility and journalistic ethos of which the right to free speech
and "a healthy debate long overdue " (and perhaps a special
assignment that should have been given Nanz to investigate the
changes,if any, in the product's development(s) over the 13 years or
so since its introduction) on the topic off metal clay. At least if
Nanz had been given the chance to revisit, and investigate any
advancements the product may have undergone since she was first asked
to work with it years before, could have been accepted as unbiased
objective reporting on the topic. At this point, and in light of your
actions based, apparently,on one person forwarding her objective and
critical analysis of the material to you, which otherwise you would
have had no knowledge of, can not be trusted. Further, your admission
that you did not post the e-mail reconfirms the fact that you do not
participate in Orchid and based your decision on outside influences
,as opposed to choosing to ignore something posted by Nanz, in her
own time, in her own pursuits, having nothing to do, as she stated in
the post, with the magazine you edit...as your choices are yours to
own, we - the colleagues of Nanz Aalund-can only hope your publisher
sees through the petty office politiking and makes the right choice
regarding your continued reign over the magazine's direction.
