========[ Invite a Friend - http://www.ganoksin.com/invite.htm ]======== I have only two quick points to make. 1) It was suggested in a personal Email that reference be made to "fine silver derived from metal clay" as a good descriptive for items made from metal clay. As a metalsmith and metal clay worker, I find no problem with that designation at all, in fact I applaud it as fully descriptive. 2) I am not in support of the firing of Nanz Azlund from her position. I was taken aback by her initial posting because her information was so out of date and yet, when surrounded by sources to upgrade her lack of knowledge and post from a firm understanding of the media, she chose to post anyway. If she had tried the media in the past year, decided that she did not like it, and then posted her reasoning, it would have held more weight for me. Instead she spread misinformation about the product. She also stated these opinions within two weeks of when she was scheduled to be one of three judges for a metal clay competition. A position that she was unsuited for given her bias. I feel fairly sure that her signature was an automatic signature and that she didn't give a thought to the fact that the magazine was listed in it. But it was. And in so posting and so signing, she made the magazine a party to her opinion. I truly wish she had published her opinion under her sole name without the corporate baggage. The entire affair was extremely unfortunate for all parties concerned. I hope that metalsmiths can acknowledge that metal clay exists as an alternative tool in their repertoire, and I hope that metal clay artists can acknowledge that without a good background in traditional metal arts, they may be lacking essential skills that would only help them to make better quality metal clay items. That is MY opinion, and since I am self-employed, I guess I won't be too worried about losing my employment over it :-)) Thanks go out to Hanuman for allowing this discussion in its fullness, and to James Binnion (sp?) for the expert commentary on the molecular differences between fine silver and sintered metal clay.
