I have no right to say whether or not Nanz posted misinformation since I have never paid any attention to this medium (although I have to say that if James Binnion is backing what she says, he's just about the most knowledgeable metal man out there right now so I have to tend to go with him on this) but there is misinformation spread on this site almost every single day. There are postings about copyright, gem materials, metal techniques and all sorts of other things that are completely and totally wrong in some cases and definitely off base in a lot of the others. No one in the Orchid or metal community seems to be disrespected by this fact. As a matter of fact it is this exchange of ideas that makes it a forum ( "forum: an assembly for the discussion of questions of public interest"--American College Dictionary). Discussion of questions of public interest usually implies that there is more than idea available. Having a different opinion does not imply disrespect. I don't like our president but I know a few people who voted for him. My different opinion does not imply disrespect to them. And what the heck is the "metal clay artists community" anyway? Are metal clay artists all part of the same community? Do they all think exactly the same? Are they some kind of new zombies I haven't heard about yet (speaking of which I hope you have all experienced some of the spontaneous zombie marches working their way around the world of late--no really, they are out there)? It's my understanding from the range of responses that it is used by many "traditional' jewelers as well when they want a certain effect. Are they part of this "metal clay artists community" or is it open to people who only work in this medium? By the way there have been numerous discussions on this forum (do I have to define it again?) about the differences between casting and fabrication. No one was disrespected in these. People have different opinions. Hmm, starting to sound like a case of a high level of insecurity. I wonder what that's all about? Daniel R. Spirer, G.G. Daniel R.
