    Elaine, that's an interesting note about making your own dress being
    bad luck. When I first started reading this thread, I thought of my
    dress. I didn't make jewelry when I got married, at least not
    anything really "nice", although I did know how to restring my
    pearls. Anyway, although I didn't make jewelry, I did sew! I spent
    months designing & making my dress, I made 25 versions of the
    bodice, and maybe half as many versions of the skirt. I started
    working on the real dress (cutting into that silk was scary!) maybe a
    month at best before the big day, and I finished it at about 2:30am
    the Wednesday before the Saturday ceremony. My mother, however,
    noticed when she saw it that Friday, that the hem needed a little
    redoing, so she sat & fixed it by hand the night before the wedding.
    My bridesmaids apparently had nightmares about me not finishing it,
    but I was bound & determined! Well, here I am almost 10 years later,
    still happily married, two amazing little kids, and no bad luck to
    be found! OK, knocking really hard on some wood here after that
    comment!! ;-)
