    Wayne, Thanks for that extensive explanation. It's all new to me and
    makes complete sense. 

    My handicap is that I'm self taught in the lapidary area and never
    heard of most of what you describe. 

    As for bonded laps, I've never thrown one out. I have a foot locker
    full of laps. Once they're no longer useful for stone they are very
    handy for sharpening tools.
