The main thing when plating is to make sure that you have cleaned
the items properly. Following all steps to properly clean the metal
before plating is essential. Make sure that your solution is between
120F and 140F. Lower voltage usually works better. 1 volt will give
a brighter plate than 3 volts. Most people will steam plate and
rinse. The following steps will give a brighter plate.

    Ultrasonic and or steam clean
    electro clean the piece
    rinse in distilled water
    acid dip
    rinse in new distilled water
    plate
    rinse in distilled water
    acid dip and rinse again.

The last acid dip should brighten up the plating process and leave a
    better finish.

I hope this helps
