Wayne,......ah hah.....you were talking faceting. I have no problem
with your comments on faceting. I agree it only takes a very short
time to bring up a facet and I never (well almost never) use anything
more coarse than a 240 either. Of course, I'm talking a reasonable
size stone here....really large stones will still require more
attention. Oh...I use Dia-cut to keep my laps lubricated. Don't have
any problems with clogging of sluffing. I don't speed cut either as
faceting is not my main emphasis, though I certainly enjoy it for
relaxation. So whether I finish a facet in 10 sec or 1 min is not
important to me. I understand your situation though Wayne.

You are correct that there is a great deal of subsurface damage
caused by a coarser wheel and it is over a much wider area on a cab.
That is why it takes longer to work up a cab on a 600 wheel, no
matter what lubricant one uses. A new wheel will, of course remove
material much more quickly, but cutting large agate and jasper free
forms like I do( often upwards of 60mm in size) a wheel does not
remain sharp very long. I can, and do, swap sides periodically and
even dress the wheel now and then but all that remains temporary. ---
Thanks for the interesting exchange Wayne.

Cheers from Don in SOFL.
