Cori,

    When I count the number of wheels you use, I see eight (8). What
    kind of machine(s) are you using? Are you using SiC or diamond (must
    be diamond - right)? Why do you find it necessary to use so many
    grits? I would suggest the 400 and 3000 are just added steps that
    take time away from doing other things. 

    Also, I would suggest you try using cerium Ox on felt for your final
    polish on quartz, agate, jasper. Other oxides can also be used on
    other stones....such as Linde A with leather for jade, etc. Remember,
    diamond is an abrasive.....it always abrades. Even 14K leaves a
    slight greasy surface on a smooth agate (at least to my eyes). Cerium
    however, produces an absolute mirror finish. Give it a try and you'll
    see.
