    As you can imagine, everyone has their own view on what wheels to
    use. For example, I do not agree with you that one should NEVER use a
    grit coarser than 260 or even 325. I do not like 80 grit particularly
    but do use it at times for rapid removal of sluff material. Then I
    use a 220 to recover from the harsh cutting. I rarely use a saw to
    remove sluff because mostly I cut freeforms. If I used a 260
    (certainly with a 325) I would be cutting all night just to find the
    geometry! So, I either use an 80 gr with a very light touch, or go
    right to the 220 if the stone is well formed. 

    Also, I have never found a 600, whether in good shape or not, that
    would remove grooves in 20-30 secs. Agate/jasper are hard tough
    stones and physics says only so much material can be removed in so
    much time relative to speed and surface area of a wheel x the surface
    area of the stone. Opal maybe, agate/jasper I doubt that. I find even
    after truing up on my 220 that I can expect 10 to 15 minutes on the
    600.
