The 200 is not much better. > If your 600 is in good shape, the grooves from a 260-280 or 325 > should come out in 20-30 seconds of work. As you can imagine, everyone has their own view on what wheels to use. For example, I do not agree with you that one should NEVER use a grit coarser than 260 or even 325. I do not like 80 grit particularly but do use it at times for rapid removal of sluff material. Then I use a 220 to recover from the harsh cutting. I rarely use a saw to remove sluff because mostly I cut freeforms. If I used a 260 (certainly with a 325) I would be cutting all night just to find the geometry! So, I either use an 80 gr with a very light touch, or go right to the 220 if the stone is well formed. Also, I have never found a 600, whether in good shape or not, that would remove grooves in 20-30 secs. Agate/jasper are hard tough stones and physics says only so much material can be removed in so much time relative to speed and surface area of a wheel x the surface area of the stone. Opal maybe, agate/jasper I doubt that. I find even after truing up on my 220 that I can expect 10 to 15 minutes on the 600.
