    Grace, I use the Permalac with excellent success, but I do cut it
    generously with lacquer thinner, in order for it to dry within a few
    minutes to prevent dust and fuzzies in the finish. Several dips is
    enough. Perhaps there is something in the aerosol propellant that
    affects the process? Donna Wilson uses a spray lacquer made for the
    auto finishing industry--the clear coat spray. 

    You might also look into cabinet grade lacquer (it will be a very,
    very light honey blonde color), from Woodworker's Suppy, or
    Renaissance Wax for a satin sheen.
