    Hi all, and again thank you for you're wise suggestions. 

    I actually started another thread seeking answers to what type of
    base metals I could use to cast models, not realizing that people
    were still replying to this thread. I like the suggestion of using
    the alloys one would usually pair with pure gold - are these strong
    enough on their own to withstand vulcanization once I cast a model
    from them? 

    ...and I too was told that one can not add Borax to an Electro-Melt
    furnace. Could someone elaborate on the type of flux one uses with
    the unit? 

    Another issue I was curious about was the fragility of the crucibles
    for the furnace. I was told they break down after some time and can
    actually crumble while being removed from with tongues, is this the
    result of poor handling? Or just an unavoidable fact when using this
    type of machine?
