Yes I agree with Matthew, and can back up a lot of those formulas. In a
book called Creative Casting written by Sharr Choate in 1966 that I
have,it lists some of the same exact formulas for the various colors
of gold as well as this "other metals used in alloying of gold for
various colors include nickel, white iron, cadmium and cobalt. In lower
carat alloys, zinc and cadmium in amounts less than 1% to.5%
respectively of the volumes are added to lower the melting point, but
only when the balance of the metal is in the molten stage. They are
not added in the crucible with the other metals and brought up to a
    white heat together"

Personally I have tried some of the red, green and even brown, and no I
didn't burn the gold to make it brown. ha

I honestly believe a lot of info as to how things were made has been
tucked away in a folder or book deep in some old library or just
plain lost like some of the egyptians works which we still can't
explain. I respect the fact that people work hard and are sometimes
secretive about development of things. It just is interesting when
someone "creates " something similiar to something else done 50 years
ago. Some people would never release gold formulas for colors etc for
fear they would lose an egde,or maybe its just about ego and
money, dunno.I think though most of us here are for sharing and
    discussing.

Its also interesting to note that some of these new metal combo's
that I won't mention have been around for years before everyone
started chatting about them. Most were not in sheet or wire form but
    used in casting etc.

However effective marketing has launched them into demand.
