This may be a prevalent notion but if the glass artist takes the
time to properly anneal after fusing, or polishing, fused glass is
extremely strong. Remember how hard it was to crack marbles?

I have to agree, though it is the same with any medium that can be
worked with a moderate amount of equipment. The level of design and
execution will vary greatly. There's garish glass, and there are
lots of $2 to $5 stone cabochons at shows that I wouldn't use, but I
see them in jewelry all the time. The stone cabochons I buy range in
price from $20 to $50 and I'm very happy to pay that (plug for Eidos
in San Rafael, CA - beautiful cabs!). My point is that we have to
rely on consumer education and taste to recognize quality materials
and workmanship regardless of the medium. I'd just like to see more
    beautiful glass in quality settings.
