    What's wrong with nailpolish? It is basically a very fluid and
    heavily pigmented paint. Not permanent? I've colorcoded all my needle
    files by dipping their tangs in nailpolish just to separate between
    cuts. And no, it hasn't peeled off, abraided nor faded. It is even
    fairly resistant to alcohol but not xylene, benzene or acetone. Behind
    a stone it doesn't steal any space and conforms to the surface.
