Dear Kim,

When I taught the best students where the ones who contacted me in
advance of the classes start and asked me what I would like them to
    be prepared for.

So my best advise to you would be for you to contact the instructor
at the Jewelry Arts Institute and ask them what books they would
recommend, what tools and what materials you should bring. I would
even e-mail my syllabus to those who asked for it. It is a good sign
to an instructor when a student takes responsibility for their own
    educational experience.

Good Luck! Your going to have a lot of fun.
