[Jewelry making - Article 00005] - [Orchid] Making Sterling Silver Granules

Hello,

    I have a two part question. 

    What is the best/correct/safe way to: 

    1. make sterling silver; and 

    2. produce granules (is that the right term, or pellets maybe?) from
    the resulting alloy? 

    If someone could give me enough details (or direct me to the info.)
    to carry out the procudure I'd be very greatful.
