As an undergraduate at Arizona State Univ., I worked in a lab where
we cut a meteorite that was about 3 feet in diameter. A
reciprocating saw was built and the blade was a piece of steel about
5 feet long and 1/8" thick. Grit and water were fed into the cut and
the water was recycled from a catch pan. I think the blade also
carried a weight. It worked but it also wore out a lot of blades.
You might contact Dr. Carleton Moore, Department of Chemistry,
Arizona State Univ., Tempe, Arizona for details. FYI: I did my
doctoral thesis on Wyoming jade deposits.
