Respectfully, those who are happy to provide the information would
readily speak up and tell you that they are happy to provide the
information. There are, however, many more participants to the forum
who would remain silent. The reason you don't know how they feel is
that they would not speak up.

I wrote to a few people last year. People who I see as successful in
their art. I asked their opinion. One bead artist (bead weaving, the
kind that takes 100 hours per piece typically) said (of a New York
show that I had asked her about) "though not my best show.....". I
took this info as more than forthcoming and (out of respect) would
never think of asking her what her best show would be. To me, this
question would be out of line and too pressing.

On the other hand, I talked with someone who makes beaded jewelry
(the strung kind, not woven) and she told me all about a particular
show (sales figures, good and bad points, everything she knew)
    without me even asking.

Possibly, you are absolutely correct in saying there are more people
willing to give info than I know of. I may just be too polite (for
lack of a better word and I am not at all trying to imply that you
are impolite) to ask more info.

As an aside, I wrote to someone once. I consider him to be the most
successful person in his art that I know of. He wrote (of New York
shows) "it's all a crapshoot" this is the best piece of advise I
have ever gotten. I am a planner, a perfectionist. If I can be
involved in anything that is remotely related to being a crapshoot, I
consider it to be a major conquest for my psyche.

Best Regards,
