Of course, there are stores that are very deliberately laid out, and they would neither want or need display materials from the artist. For the others, however, it would be a plus in showing off your work in the best possible way. > maybe some retailers take better care of items when they are more > expensive...don't really know. First, let me say that I didn't mean to imply that an artist should send out large quantities of material in a shotgun approach to marketing. Of course $10,000 in original art is a lot harder to make than $10,000 in tennis bracelets, and means a lot more to a struggling artist. I merely intended to show that companies at all levels send out consignment goods, and that, if done properly and intelligently in the right stores or galleries, it can benefit the artist by increasing exposure and sales. Also, it kills me that in this day there are stores that would allow their employees (or owners, for that matter) to wear or abuse merchandise and expect to return it for credit. I can understand wearing a designer's brooch to a prominant social event to increase exposure, but rings or anything else which could be damaged through wear or mishap should never be treated this way. We don't even treat the jewelry that we have paid for this way, let alone that which has been entrusted to us to care for! When it is in the hands of the retailer, it should be that retailer's responsibility to take care of it and either sell it (and pay for it!) or return it in the original condition when the consignment period for that piece is over.
