    That's what I would have thought as well. Although if someone wants
    a ring I make the entire thing from scratch. I can melt the gold,
    roll it into square bar, roll it out to the desired width and
    thickness, bend and solder to the correct finger size, then file the
    ring half-round and finally polish it in around half an hour. 

    Far quicker than ordering it from a supplier. 

    Unless it's a requirement that the ring be machine made and
    extremely precise, although a handmade ring can be pretty close if
    the jeweller is no being slap-dash.
