Hi Vicki,

As someone who sold Rolex watches for 5 years through a certified
dealership, even at the most basic model of all stainless steel, date
on dial etc. your watch has more value. But you need to do a few
things to prove it. You should take it to a reputable watchmaker &
have him go over it to verify that it's 100% genuine and in working
condition. You can also take the box, paperwork, warranty, any extra
links that may have been removed from the watch along to this person.
There are serial numbers on the case head, hidden under the band, as
well as # on the back of the watch case that corresponds to the
paperwork. I agree, check on-line for current market value of
similar/same watch model. But this will only give you a general idea.
Then you should try to sell it privately for maximum $$$$. But if
that seems to risky for you, the watch-broker may be the way to go. It
would certainly seem that the jeweler was "low balling" you. Granted
he has to stock it, market it, verify it's condition etc. But as the
lady who was involved in the armed robbery, 2 weeks after the Rodney
King Riots, our thieves were at my store solely for the Rolexes. Mind
you, the Crips members had to come all the way up from LA by car &
plane just to get this product and had staked out several other
stores before picking ours.. So, you know this watch has value- unless
it's been run over by a mack truck!! Then I guess it's worth niente..
(-: Happy Holidays from drippy SF,CA. Stay sane & healthy during the
    next month
