    The Controlled Rusting Steel Post

me think of this, and I know its not what you were looking for, but I
thought it could be of interest to many here. This is to keep rust off
things and stop it from happening. No matter what you have, this will
do it. ACF50. Its made for aircraft, and this stuff works. Here is one
    place where you get it.

Now, the reason I know it works is because the father of a good
friend of mine use to be in charge of helicopter repair for the US
gov. If was the big pig, as we use to call him, everything and
anything went through him when it came to helicopters owned by the
Government, military to white house, he got the last word. And the
strange part is, he is not only a fully trained Aircraft engineer, he
knew his stuff! Anyway, back in the 80's the company that invented
this stuff wanted to sell it to the government. They had to jump
through hoops and do a 5 year test to prove its worth before Ken
would ok the purchase. And they did. They sprayed an old Hughie with
this stuff and dropped into the gulf of Mexico, salt water, for 3
years, pulled it up, check it and left it in for another 2 years.
Passed with flying colors. They also had a set up to show it wouldnt
conduct electricity, so they took a tv out of the case, dropped it
into a fish tank filled with this stuff, as its a clear liquid, and
the tv ran just fine. Not shorts anywhere. You can also solder copper
wires that have been sprayed with it, so I dont think it would harm
anything. It dries fast, soaks into the pours of the metal and it
will not rust. You have to re apply every year or so on aircraft to
get the best results, so I would imagine on a file you may want to
squirt that 2 times a year or so. It works on with any metal and its
really not expensive at all, 13.44 for a 16 oz can at Wicks. Ken use
to give me the stuff, but he retired and I moved away, and now I have
to buy it if I want it, just like everyone else. I think it also
comes in small cans too. And thanks for bringing up the subject, I
had not thought of using it on jewelers tools. DUH! :-P

Oh, Wicks aircraft is in Highland Illinois, about a 30 - 40 minute
drive from where I live in St. Louis.
