Before keying, try this tip which I learned from a customer at a
trade show, slip the inside a white plastic grocery bag and then
swipe the card with the plastic over it. It worked for me the few
    times I've tried it :)

Some things I've learned while obtaining credit card services:

    - Don't lease unless you REALLY REALLY have to. I bought a new top of
line wireless machine for $800. The same machine would have cost me
over 2 to 3 grand in a lease. there are wireless machines starting
around $500. You usually don't have to buy machine from the service
provider, contrary to what the rep tries to tell you. it's just a
software download to update the system's data.

    - Try ask every user if it's a corporate card... cuz some cards don't
display it anywhere... and you will get the non-qualified rate :(

    - Try to shop for a no monthly minimum, no contract service

    - For comparison purposes, here are my rates from my provider based
    on very good credit:

        - qualified sales: 1.69% + $0.20 per swipe
        - mid-qualified: 2.69% + same
        - non-qualified: 3.29% + same
        - batch: 25 cents per batch
        - monthly stmt: $10
        - monthly wireless charge: $17.95
        - debit cards: 25 cents per swipe
        - no monthly minimums

these are probably not the lowest and they (service provider) don't
exactly have great customer service (sales rep has good service tho),
but it is WITHOUT a contract, no cancellation fees. I'd be curious if
anyone knows of anything better. thanks.
