Erika Speel in her "Dictionary of Enamelling" page 119 under Plique
    - a (accent grave) - jour writes, "a jour was in use from early times
for jewellery settings which light to pass unimpeded through a
    translucent gemstone."

My Merriam Webster Deluxe Dictionary states, "litterally, braid
    letting in daylight (1878)."

Not one of my French dictionaries has the word "Pilique". Perhaps
    the word is archaic.
