Doug,

Thanks for reminding us all that more than sympathy is needed during
this terrible crisis. Imagine how much it would help if every
Orchidian contributed just $5 - that would come to about $26,000!
Sorry if I sound like a charity ad, but this really is a case in
which individual action can achieve a much greater good.

A very helpful list of links to many different charities is
available at cnn.com under the heading "How to Help."

Of these, Oxfam America is a well-established and reputable charity
that seeks permanent solutions to aid developing countries and areas
in crisis. Oxfam may not yet be familiar to many Americans, but is
as well known as UNICEF or the Salvation Army in Europe and the U.K.
It is also one of the few entirely secular charities, an important
consideration when aid is needed in areas of religious diversity.

    Oxfam's websites are www.oxfam.org and www.oxfamamerica.org.

Usual disclaimers: I don't work for or otherwise represent Oxfam, I
just appreciate their intelligent, level-headed, and workable
approach to aiding people in need.

As we enter a new year of 2005, we must also think of those poor
souls who have 'left us' so fast and tragically! Many countries are
declining in doing the firework displays. We should take a minute in
our subdued festivities and think of all the thousands of children
    who have perished.

I am going to make a blessing over our Friday night, Sabbath service
at Sundown and also at midnight..E.S.T.and ask the Almighty to hold
close the spirits of those who have perished....;>(

I ask you to do the very same, please!...Gerry Lewy, a.k.a. " Gerry,
